Texture Set

The PBR Texture Set Wizard in IRender nXt makes it easy to use texture image map sets to create new .ArMaterials and SketchUp materials which render with bump, reflection and transparency masks.

Creating a PBR Texture Set Material

Selecting the Image Maps

1. Load the PBR Texture Set Wizard dialog from the toolbar. (PBR Texture Set Wizard Icon.jpg)

2. Either download a texture set from one of the external sites listed or save texture maps from another source to a drive, then click the Import Set button to retrieve (You only need to select one image map from a group of maps - we recommend you choose the Color map - the rest will be selected automatically.). Or work in the Select Texture Set area to retrieve an existing texture you previously assigned to a Category. The image maps will be loaded into the 4 available slots in the center panel on the dialog.
3. Adjust parameters if needed, e.g. Max Image Width, Strength (individual maps), SketchUp Texture Width.

4. When you have completed your texture setup, click either the Edit, Add, or Place button on the bottom right of the dialog.

Edit. This will launch the Advanced Material Editor which can be used to make further changes to the material before saving/placing it. When you select OK from the Advanced Material Editor, your new .ArMaterial will be used to create a new SketchUp Material which can be placed on faces and surfaces in SketchUp.
Add. This creates the material and adds it to both the model and the User (material) Library.
Place. This will save the material and then allow you to place it on a surface in the model.

Image Map Types

Override these as necessary

  • Color (Diffuse) - Colors in Image Map are used for colors on the rendered surface
  • Bump - Intensities in the Image Map are used to create a Bump Map
  • Normal - Intensities in the Image Map are used to define normals to the surface.
  • Specular - Intensities in the Image Map define highlights and reflections.
  • Opacity - Intensities in the Image Map define transparency in the material
  • Displacement - Intensities in the Image Map are used to define elevation changes in the rendered geometry.
  • Strength - Sets the amount of color, bump, reflection, etc.

Other Parameters

Set these as desired:

  • SketchUp Texture Width - Defines the size that the Image Maps represent.
  • Max Image Width - Images will be re-sampled to this width to make them smaller and faster when rendering. Set to 0 for no resizing, set to 1024 for a reasonable maximum size.
  • Category - Enter a name here for a sub-category of materials (Wood, etc.). This makes it easier to organize and reload your saved textures.
